Burgaw, North Carolina

A pool that fits
this part of the coast.

Burgaw is the Pender County seat — a historic inland town with a walkable center, bigger lots, and a more rural, agricultural setting well away from the salt air of the coast.

Inland doesn't mean second-best when it comes to pools. In fact, the extra room many Burgaw properties offer opens up design possibilities that tighter coastal lots can't.

Why fiberglass here

Why fiberglass suits
Burgaw yards.

Away from the beach, the case for fiberglass shifts but stays strong: the same fast install, the same smooth low-maintenance surface, and the same reduced chemical upkeep — just without the salt.

On larger inland lots there's often more freedom in where and how a pool sits, and a clean, quick install keeps a big yard from becoming a long-term work site.

Days

Not months

The shell arrives finished, so the yard isn't a job site all season.

½

The chemicals

A non-porous gelcoat resists algae and pairs naturally with saltwater.

Flex

Not cracks

The shell moves with shifting ground instead of fighting it.

Years of life

Modern gelcoat finishes resist fading and staining for decades with normal care.

Local notes

A few things worth
planning for here.

i.

As the county seat, Burgaw is the local permitting hub — convenient for getting plans reviewed.

ii.

Larger lots are common, which can mean more placement options.

iii.

Some properties are on well and septic, so siting around those systems is part of the plan.

Straight answers

Burgaw questions.

No, but it decides where the pool goes, and you want that answer before you fall in love with a spot.

Your septic field needs to stay intact and accessible, and you can't put a pool on top of it or block getting to it. Same for the well and its setback. On most Burgaw lots there's enough room that this is a placement conversation, not a yes-or-no one.

Practical note: Pender County wants your environmental health water and sewer paperwork before they'll even process a pool permit. So this gets sorted first whether you want to or not.

Depends which side of the town line you're on. Inside the limits, Burgaw runs its own inspections department and the permit comes from the town. Outside, it's Pender County, whose permitting office is also in Burgaw. That confuses everybody at least once.

Only if you'll swim in it.

Big lots out here tempt people into big pools, and a bigger shell costs more to heat, more to chemical, and more to cover. I've never met anybody who regretted the pool being a little smaller. I've met plenty who heat 30,000 gallons so four people can stand in it.

The real question is how you'll use it. Laps is one answer, kids is another, sitting in it with a drink is a third, and they point at different shells. Worth working out before you're looking at a catalog. Call me at 910-859-6222 and we'll talk it through.
