One of the fastest-growing spots on the corridor, minutes from the beach — what fiberglass pools offer Holly Ridge homes.
Design my pool — freeHolly Ridge is a small Onslow County town on Highway 17 that has become one of the fastest-growing spots on the whole Wilmington–to–Topsail corridor. It's a bedroom community just minutes from Surf City's beaches, with a steady wave of new construction.
All those fresh lots and new homes make it a natural fit for backyard pools — and a part of the coast that's often overlooked by the bigger builders.
New homes on fresh lots are ideal for a fiberglass install: clean access, room to work, and a fast turnaround that gets a new-build family swimming sooner. The low-maintenance surface is a real plus for busy households.
The sandy soils of the coastal plain suit a flexible fiberglass shell, and the reduced chemical upkeep keeps ongoing costs down.
The shell arrives finished, so the yard isn't a job site all season.
A non-porous gelcoat resists algae and pairs naturally with saltwater.
The shell moves with shifting ground instead of fighting it.
Modern gelcoat finishes resist fading and staining for decades with normal care.
Lots of new subdivisions means HOA covenants are common — worth checking what your community allows before you plan.
Newer lots often have the space and clean access that make installs straightforward.
Being inland of the immediate oceanfront, many lots avoid the strictest coastal constraints — but always confirm.
New to fiberglass pools? Our complete guide walks through how they work and the full install process.
Almost certainly. Read the covenants anyway, before you pick a spot.
Holly Ridge had about 1,300 people in 2010 and over 4,100 by 2020. Nearly all of that showed up as new subdivisions, so most houses here sit under covenants written in the last fifteen years. They tend to have opinions about where the pool goes, how it's fenced, and whether the equipment is screened.
None of that stops a pool. It decides the design, and it's a lot cheaper to know on day one than after the shell's on order.
Holly Ridge runs its own building inspections department, so inside the town limits the permit and the certificate of occupancy come from the town. Outside, it's Onslow County out of Jacksonville, and they do next-business-day inspections.
Plenty of the newer neighborhoods sit right on that boundary. Worth ten seconds to check.
Other way around. Now is the easy window, and it closes.
The shell comes in one piece and has to get into the backyard somehow. Doing that before the fence goes up, before the patio, before anything's grown in, is a much smaller job than tearing a path through finished landscaping in five years. The yard being a little bare right now is working in your favor.
One thing to mention up front: if your builder's warranty or the grading plan on the lot is still live, say so. It changes the order things have to happen in. Call me at 910-859-6222.
